Flaxmobile
Graphic and UX/UI Designer, July 2023 - Present
The Organization:
“The Flaxmobile Project supports farmers and craftspeople across Mi’kma’ki: Nova Scotia to cultivate fibre flax as an alternative to fossil-fuel based fibres. The Flaxmobile Project is a three-phase research project that involves a mobile facility for educational immersion and fibre flax processing. The project is creating a critical network that connects farmers, fibre mills, craftspeople and consumers to explore the sustainable futures of textile supply chains and to address the material security gap across Mi’kma’ki: Nova Scotia.“
The Project:
I am responsible for designing the digital interfaces of the Flaxmobile Project. I apply user-centred design principles to ensure that information is accessible and engaging to a broad audience. I work closely with the project team to design and develop graphic applications such as the project website, public presentations, and the Grower’s Guide to Fibre Flax from concept to completion. This is a key role in the project team, as these interfaces will enable the translation of research to the public to inform public discourse and allow the project to have a broad reach amongst stakeholder groups.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the research team in preparing and devoloping materials for publication. This includes agricultural fact sheets, a stakeholder workbook, and transition design maps
- Update website with information and knowledge mobilization materials in accordance with brand guidelines
- Work with the Digital Illustrtaor and Social Media Assistant to develop tools and materials to promote the work of farmers andcraftspeople, and flax as a sustainable material
